From recovering murder victims' bodies to uncovering mass graves from the 1995 Srebenica massacre, Professor John Hunter has done it all.

Now the academic from the University of Birmingham has had a documentary made about him. Screened tonight on BBC1, One Life will look at the varying and often harrowing career of the professor from the University's Institute of Archaeology and Antiquity.

The programme will look at aspects of Prof Hunter's life from solving murders to excavating an Iron Age fort.

However, the documentary will also follow as he helps authorities uncover mass graves from the Srebenica massacre in Bosnia.

In addition to being the leading forensic archaeologist on UK homicides, Professor John Hunter's other research interests surround the excavation of Early Christian sites in the Northern and Western Isles of Scotland.

"Much of our knowledge about past societies comes from excavating ancient cemeteries," said Prof Hunter.

"I get so much satisfaction from helping a family to have a proper grave where they can go to grieve properly."
