Detectives in Birmingham have appealed for sightings of a white van near the scene of a shooting which left a 27-year-old man in hospital.

Officers, who are trawling through CCTV footage following the incident in Great Barr, also confirmed that the victim remained in a stable condition with wounds to his stomach.

The injured man, who is from the Handsworth area, was taken to hospital on Tuesday after being shot in Kingsdown Avenue at around 10.45pm.

Officers say the victim managed to walk along Old Walsall Road, before collapsing in a nearby chip shop.

Detective Sergeant Harry May, who is investigating the shooting, said he was keen to trace anyone who may have seen a white van before the incident or speeding away from the scene.

The officer said: “We are determined to trace the person or people behind this despicable crime.

“Our officers have conducted a meticulous search of the crime scene and recovered various items.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting and has not already spoken to us, to contact their local police station straight away.”
