Two emergency services workers have been injured when an ambulance was in collision with a lorry in Staffordshire.

The crash happened just before 11am Kings Bromley Road, Alrewas.

The female driver of the ambulance was trapped in the vehicle for a short time before being treated for chest, pelvic, leg and head injuries and airlifted to University Hospital North Staffordshire.

Her male colleague was also released from the ambulance and sustained leg, chest and head injuries, before being airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The lorry driver involved in the incident escaped uninjured.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The ambulance crew were not tasked to an incident or carrying a patient at the time and were making their way from Burton Hospital to standby at Rugeley.”
