Dear Editor, At a time when Birmingham City Council is facing massive spending cuts, is it really right that it insists on funding the airport’s runway extension at the expense of other projects that would actually benefit the communities within Birmingham?

The runway extension is likely to take money out of the local economy, increase noise pollution, air pollution or just be a huge white elephant if oil prices reach the prices they’re expected to and flying becomes more expensive.

The council has refused all requests to see the details of the decisions made on behalf of the people of Birmingham. This is a massive scandal – isn’t it about time the local media stopped ignoring it?
