Sussex beat Lancashire with just two balls to spare in their NatWest Pro40 fixture, following a fine unbeaten century from skipper Chris Adams.

After being put into bat, the Lightning had racked up 277 for four. Lancashire captain Mark Chilton was his side's top-scorer with an unbeaten 76, while there were also half-centuries for Stuart Law (59), Steve Croft (56) and Mal Loye (51). The home side then slipped to five for two as Matt Prior (nought) and Richard Montgomerie (five) - fell cheaply.

However, 61 from Oliver Rayner aided Adams' charge as the Sharks edged to victory with two wickets in hand, despite the best efforts of Steve Croft, who took four for 59. Adams finished with 132 from 101 balls, with 11 boundaries and four sixes.

Durham recorded a first win as they beat North-amptonshire by four wickets. Usman Afzaal made 108 not out and Lance Klusener scored an unbeaten 60 in the Steelbacks' 213 for four.

Although the Dynamos looked on the back foot at 56 for three, a half-century from Gary Scott (57) and 81 off 69 balls from Dale Benkenstein helped put the visitors on course for victory.

In Division Two, Gloucestershire Gladiators maintained their 100 per cent record with a four-wicket victory over Somerset at Cheltenham. while Shane Warne grabbed four wickets for 14 runs as Hampshire had Kent in a spin at Canterbury. The visitors could only manage 200 for eight,but it proved enough for an 18-run victory as the Spitfires were out for 182 from 37.3 overs.

At the Brit Oval, Surrey made it three in a row as they beat Leicestershire by 33 runs.
