A Birmingham man who died after he was stabbed in the back has been named as Junior Reeves.

Mr Reeves, 45, was attacked at around 1.45am on Wednesday in Gospel Lane in the Acocks Green area of Birmingham.

He died in hospital shortly before 4pm that day.

A 37-year-old man was due to appear at Solihull Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with his murder.

Mr Reeves was a single man from Acocks Green who was believed to be unemployed and appeared to keep himself to himself, West Midlands Police said.

He came from a large family, which was said to be devastated by his death. His sisters and brother were at his bedside when he died.

A forensic post-mortem examination revealed that he died after suffering a single stab wound to the back.

Detective Chief Inspector Ryan Howat, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said: "A murder investigation has been set up so we can find out exactly what happened on Wednesday morning on Gospel Lane.

"Junior's family are devastated by his death and we need to quickly establish exactly what happened.

"Junior appeared to keep himself to himself but we need to hear from those that knew him or who saw him on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning before his death."

He appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
