Parents collectively spend £990 million on school uniforms for their children every term, a new survey shows.

The average parents spends £185 getting their child kitted out for the new term, according to credit card provider Morgan Stanley.

New school uniforms are the highest cost faced by parents at an average of £84, followed by new train-ers at £48.

But buying new shoes will also set back parents by an average of £31, while stationery will cost them £12. l RSGB Omnibus questioned 2,000 people.
