MORE than 80 jobs could disappear following a major reorganisation of Birmingham City Council’s human resources department.
Local authority officials have announced a three-month consultation period with the workforce and trade unions, but say they hope all of the axed posts can be identified through voluntary redundancies.
The shake-up is part of the Excellence in People Management project – an £84?million investment in new computer systems.
The aim is to bring all of the council’s HR units into one centralised department.
In a consultation paper sent to staff, HR director Andy Albon admits job cuts are inevitable.
The council expects between 59 and 85 HR jobs to disappear, about a third of the current total.
