In his 50 years as a taxi driver, Daniel Dineen has never received a speeding fine or parking ticket.

And last night the 73-yearold's accomplishment was recognised as he was named the best cabbie in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

The grandfather-of-four (left) was given a crystal tumbler by dignitaries at Warwick District Council and told his next £225 licence fee would be waived in recognition of his achievement.

Mr Dineen, who started driving in June 1955, said his clean driving record was down to patience - a virtue he believes is becoming rarer among taxi drivers nowadays.

He said: "There's rarely a need to get cross when you are driving.

"I see many youngsters who are impatient on the roads."

Coun Dave Shilton, from Warwick District Council, said: "Mr Dineen has faithfully served local residents and richly deserves our public thanks and praise."
