Detectives hunting a rapist who attacked an 11-year-old girl at a supermarket have drawn up a list of more than 40 possible suspects.

Warwickshire Police also revealed that a "behavioural investigative adviser", drafted in to help the inquiry, had supported officers' suspicions that the attacker was likely to be local to the area where the assault took place.

The incident room set up after the rape on March 2 has so far received more than 400 calls from members of the public, a force spokesman said. A further 100 calls had been taken on the Crimestoppers hotline, where information can be left anonymously.

"There are now 35 detectives and police staff working on the investigation and they are still keen to receive further information," the spokesman said.

Members of the public have also sent cards, soft toys and messages of support for both the victim and her mother to police.

The attack happened in the toilets at the Sainsbury's store at the Shires Retail Park in Leamington Spa, where the girl was shopping with her mother, at about 7pm on March 2.

The offender is described as a white teenager with dark brown hair and red inflamed spots on his face. He was wearing a black anorak-style hooded top with a red front and silver reflective piping.

Anyone who has any information is asked to call the incident room on 01926 415994 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
