HAS James Bond ditched his famous Aston Martin for a new style off-roader?
For in the next 007 movie Daniel Craig will be seen driving the latest Range Rover Evoque.
The Solihull-based manufacturer refused to confirm its radical new 4x4 would be in the new film, called Skyfall, but reliable sources said the car was set to figure in the blockbuster.
There was also speculation that another Midland-made car, a Jaguar, would be a scene-stealer in the film.
Skyfall is being shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and the cars were reported to have already been delivered. It was believed they would be involved in a thrilling chase in central London in some of the early sequences.
Veteran actor Albert Finney joins Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem in the cast for the film while the Bond girls are played by Naomie Harris and French actress Berenice Marlohe, who said her character would be “glamorous” and “enigmatic”.
Over the years Bond has driven a host of glamorous cars packed with gadgets. But in the first Bond movie, Dr.No in 1962, the super spy’s car was a Sunbeam Alpine convertible which didn’t have one single alteration from Q’s lab.
Two years later Sean Connery was back as Bond, in Goldfinger, driving what has proved to be his most famous car, the Silver Aston Martin DB5.
This time, Bond’s car was equipped with radar, machine guns, oil slick dispensers, smoke screens and a bullet-proof windshield, not to mention a passenger ejector seat.
A new green DBS replaced Bond’s silver DB5 for the next two films and in 1987 in the Living Daylights he graduated to an Aston Martin V8 Volante with lasers in the hubcaps, a rocket booster, and guided missile system.
And while Aston Martin has dominated subsequent films, Bond has driven a variety of cars including a Lotus Esprit that turned into a submarine and a BMW Z3.
