Bosses at Hillarys Blinds are confident Brexit will not have a major impact on their business as the company reported a £1.85 million boost in profits.

The Nottinghamshire manufacturer's turnover did fall to £165.8 million for the year to December 31, 2018, according to its latest financial report.

But with profit before tax standing at £25.2 million the firm's management are confident they are in a strong position to move forward in the coming years.

A statement signed off by the board said: "While wider economic concerns are beyond the company's control we continue to see customers responding positively both to the company's advertising message.

"The board remains confident that the in-home sales model coupled with short lead time and high quality manufacturing standards position the business well for meeting future needs of the UK consumer across a broader product portfolio.

"The board is confident that the company's strategy will continue to deliver improvements in both sales and profits."

Hillarys was founded in 1971 by Tony Hillary when he began making blinds in his garage in Nottingham.

Today, the company is headquartered in Colwick, just outside Nottingham, and continues to manufacture and sell a range of made-to-measure window coverings including blinds, curtains and shutters.

Moving forward the firm is continuing to monitor the impact of Brexit which, at the time of publication, is due to happen on October 31.

In their strategic report, bosses said actions plans were being put in place if needed in relation to supply chain and inventory management and cross border trade.

A statement added: "Management will continue to manage any potential business challenges that may arise and ensure minimal impact to the ongoing performance of the business and its ability to support our customers and trading partners."

Hillarys confirmed last October it had signed a deal with Channel 4 to be the new sponsor of its Homes on 4 programming stand, which includes shows such as Grand Designs and Location, Location, Location.

The multi-year partnership started in January.
