International and local ensembles will be in the spotlight when Birmingham’s DanceXchange launches its new autumn/winter season.

Taking place at the Patrick Centre in Birmingham’s Hippodrome theatre complex, the season kicks off with a preview performance of Tom Dale Company’s production ROAM on September 18. Featuring music by Shackleton, the piece sees five dancers examining the human need to explore and find new experiences – even at the risk of damaging life at home.

A triple bill highlights new talent in the West Midlands on October 2. Laura Dredger explores regret and how it immobilises people, Keisha Grant contrasts intimacy and resistance while Kate Mason and Claire Cunningham’s Table Football Club premieres What Are You Looking At? which turns the spotlight on the audience experience.

Vincent Dance Theatre returns on October 13-14 with If We Go On which poses the question of ‘if you had one last dance in you, what shape would it take?’ And Montréal Danse brings FURIES Alpha 1/24 (The Monsters Within) on October 29. A rollercoaster of emotions, six dancers respond to tragedy.

Joining forces with sampad South Asian Arts, DanceXchange plays host to Balbir Singh Company’s Trespass and Play of Percentages on November 5, a double bill combining contemporary dance with classical Indian Kathak.

And for its finale the autumn/winter season closes on November 25-27 with 2FaCeD DaNcE Company’s Still Breathing which is currently at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

DanceXhange programme manager Paul Burns says the new season is aiming to attract a range of fans.

“This season we’ve got a great variety of shows that we hope will appeal not only to our regulars but also tempt those that haven’t watched dance before to give it a try,” he says. “A host of new work and UK exclusives from some of the most exciting dance makers in the region, the UK and the world, all topped off by audience favourites 2FaCeD DaNcE Company.”
