Bolney Estate - Bolney Bubbly NV - Sussex, England
We hit the sofa hard last night after we’d both had tough days at work and then a more difficult evening than usual with the toddler. Once he was in bed the wife decreed that it was a fizz night. Happily I’d just been sent a sample of this so I was able to oblige…
We all know that English fizz has been on an upward curve for ages but I’ve always felt that when priced at a comparable level to entry point Champagnes it will more often than not be overlooked by consumers forced to choose between the two. Happily some retailers are stocking this wine at just under £20.
For that price you get a traditionally made blend of Chardonnay and Muller Thurgau which spends 18 months on the lees. This is a tremendously fun wine and the elderflower notes leap out of the glass. It’s a perfect aperitif, plus you’ll get serious brownie points for being the one that rocks up to a social gathering with a bottle of this and not just another generic Champagne!
