A restored village pub is at the heart of a new community scheme in a Bridgnorth village, thanks to a deal between residents and a local housing group.

In return for giving planning approval to Floreat Homes, part of Shropshire Housing Group, for the use of greenbelt land for seven new homes in Neenton, villagers secured the funding to refurbish and transform its derelict pub into a thriving new community hub.

The Pheasant Inn was recently opened by local MP Philip Dunne, who described its revival as “an example of innovative cooperation”.

It sits alongside Beech Green, a small development of seven individually crafted, three, four and five-bedroom homes with lovely views of the Shropshire Hills.

Matthew Hill, head of development at Floreat said: “Neenton has gone from being slightly out on a limb and struggling to maintain a sense of place to a village with a purpose and great place to live and visit.

“We believe the homes will appeal to families who are keen to give their children a taste of the countryside and benefit from the close community, while not being too far off the beaten track to commute to work or enjoy the delights of Bridgnorth seven miles away.

“The location really does sell the homes and the Pheasant Inn only adds to its appeal. Positioning itself as a real country local, renowned for superb Shropshire food and hospitality, it’s a great place to visit and it has a contemporary new community room for locals to meet in, have a coffee and a chat.”

Two of the properties at Beech Green have already sold with only five remaining.

Features in the homes include an eco-friendly, air source heat pump, which extracts heat from the outside air and then uses it to warm radiators and hot water.

There are attractive finishing touches such as satin chrome light switches, cream Shaker-style kitchens and luxuriously appointed bathrooms.

Shared ownership is offered on two of the properties as an option to local residents or individuals keen to buy into the new village life.

Prices start from £180,000 for a three-bedroom property. Also available are four-bedroom properties at £375,000 and five-bedroom properties at £425,000.

The showhome is being offered for £440,000 but this includes carpets, curtains, light fittings and bedroom furniture.
