One of the funniest memes on Twitter over the festive period is the one showing the horrors of the guest “bed”.

Come Christmas Eve, visitors can find themselves dossing down on the floor of relatives’ office/dining room/kitchen/utility room, squeezing into bunk beds designed for youngsters before they hit a growth spurt, or back in their childhood bedrooms which either haven’t been redecorated since they left or have been converted into home gyms.

There shouldn’t be any such problems with a house like this.

A Victorian beauty on Salisbury Road, Moseley, it has seven bedrooms. One for every day of the week. And nearly all of them are doubles.

Even the smallest bedroom is a decent, if slimline, 11ft 7in by 5ft 8in.

The house is in need of some updating, but it is packed with lovely original features ready to be enhanced by a makeover.

Moseley is renowned for its large Victorian properties. This one is a detached house that covers four storeys if one includes the cellar rooms.

In contrast to the Georgian love of symmetry, this delights in having windows of differing shapes and sizes. There are deep bays, arched windows and even a cheeky little oriel perched on the corner of the first floor.

In the entrance vestibule the eye is drawn to the pretty Minton tiled floor and the panelled inner door which still has its original stained glass.

Inside, the reception hall is a room in itself. The Minton tiling continues here, laid out in a herringbone pattern. There is a walk-in bay window with more stained glass and a welcoming cast-iron fireplace with mantelpiece surrounding.

There are stairs that lead to the first floor and an archway to an inner hall and the reception rooms.

The sitting room has the other front bay window, again with stained glass at the top.

The fireplace sits in an inglenook beneath an archway and is surrounded by marble with the heat coming from a cast-iron, wood-burning stove.

A nice-sized conservatory has its own grapevine, varnished wood floors and doors to the garden, and makes a pleasant spot on sunny days.

The dining room features a walk-in sash bay window with stained glass leaded toplights, display shelves and another impressive fireplace – this one marble with a tiled inset and hearth and cast-iron grate suitable for an open fire.

An inner hall has more of the original Minton tiled floor and leads to a guest cloakroom.

The big kitchen has a full range of units as well as space for white goods and a range cooker.

An open serving area is perfect for passing food through to the breakfast room overlooking the garden.

An archway connects it to an inner hall with door to the garden.

The split-level landing on the first floor offers access to four bedrooms.

The master bedroom feels more like a studio as it has a kitchenette area with sink, fridge and three-ring electric hob. It also has its own en-suite cloakroom with toilet and basin.

A second bedroom has fitted wardrobes and a sink in the room.

Steps lead to an area with two more bedrooms, one of them with an en-suite shower room. The other has a cast-iron fireplace and mantel, and could be suitable for use as a study.

There is also a bathroom with bath and sink, and a separate toilet in a cloakroom which also has a sink and a bidet.

The second floor has three more good-sized rooms, two of them with exposed beams and all of them with storage.

At basement level there is a cellar, a double garage and a workshop with fitted work bench.

The garden has been landscaped and has a block-paved terrace with steps down to a lawn surrounded by borders stocked with trees, shrubs and flowering plants. There is also a detached brick-built garden house.

The delights of Moseley village are on the doorstep as it is within walking distance of the centre. It is even closer to the private Moseley Park and Pool and handily placed for Cannon Hill Park.
