Clifford Chambers is a charming spot in Warwickshire and a winner of the best kept village award.

Close to Stratford-upon-Avon, it has a long history. During Shakespeare’s time the plague was rife and the rectory there was used as a refuge.

It’s moated manor house was visited by the local poet Michael Drayton and his contemporaries Shakespeare and Ben Johnson.

That same manor was remodelled by Edwin Lutyens in 1918, following a fire and the garden design has been attributed to Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll.

Among other notables who have lived in Clifford Chambers, the actor Sir Ben Kingsley spent his early married years there with his wife, the theatre director Alison Sutcliffe.

The village lies off the Stratford-upon-Avon to Cheltenham Road, and benefits from no through traffic. Though it has only just over 400 properties, it has plenty of character provided by the Parish Church of St Helens and a variety of period houses.

Currently for sale is Lyndale, a detached residence in The Close.

Set back from The Close, Lyndale is approached over an impressive in and out driveway.

From the entrance porch you step into the reception hall, with a handsome oak floor, fitted log burner, staircase to the first floor and door to the cloakroom and toilet.

There is a useful study while the sitting/dining room enjoys front and rear aspects and includes an attractive pine fireplace also with fitted log burner plus fitted shelves and sliding double glazed doors to the garden room.

The garden room, with triple aspect and double French doors to the gardens, has a barrel ceiling and pine floor.

The kitchen/breakfast room, looking out to the rear garden, has a range of fitted base and wall units incorporating cupboards, drawers and work surfaces, stainless steel sink unit, Creda Plan double oven, Belling ceramic hob, integrated refrigerator and door to the utility room.

On the first floor, the wide landing has a view to the front, access to the loft space and doors leading to the master bedroom, with rear aspect, built-in wardrobe and storage cupboards to one wall, and door to a large en suite bathroom.

There are three further bedrooms, one with a fitted wash basin and two having fitted wardrobe cupboards.

The family bathroom has a panelled bath with Mira Excel shower over, toilet and built-in airing cupboard.

The property stands back behind lawned front gardens, with an integral double garage, plus ample parking to the side and access to a further garage.

The private rear garden is enclosed by tall privet hedge and timber fencing and is laid to lawn, with fruit trees, together with a paved terrace having an attractive water feature and includes an underground rainwater storage tank and a gazebo adorned with honeysuckle.

The village has a charming pub, and a local bus service connects to Chipping Campden and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Lyndale has the benefit of central heating and part solar water heating.

Andrew Reed, of CPBigwood’s residential agency team, said: “It really is a beautiful part of the world and a lovely individual detached family house standing in an exclusive close within the village and having well proportioned accommodation.

“Stratford today is the centre for rural Warwickshire, offering a wide choice of shopping and recreational amenities. There are plenty of quality schools and good motorway and rail links to Birmingham and London.”
