Amii Grove and Danni Wells live glamorous lives, but Anuji Varma hears that business comes first from now on.
They are glamour models who don’t just boast beauty, but have the brains as well. Amii Grove and Danni Wells have graced the cover of a string of men’s magazines and they have adorned the walls of many a mechanics’ garage.
But now they are turning the tables and transforming themselves into top businesswomen by setting up the modelling agency Pin-Up Dolls.
Amii, who hails from Birmingham, and Danni, from Coventry, want to base themselves in the West Midlands because they believe there aren’t enough agencies in the area recognising the talent.
The women will officially launch the agency next week and already they have ten girls on their books.
Amii, 23, who recently split with ex-Blues player Jermaine Pennant, told the Birmingham Post: “I’m concentrating on making Pin-Up Dolls work. All I’m thinking is business, business, business at the moment.”
The agency was the brainchild of Danni, 22, who then asked Amii to become her business partner.
They intend to begin a search for the region’s next top model – slim or curvy.
“I’d wanted to set up an agency for a while and thought Amii would be the perfect partner,” Danni said.
“There’s so much talent in the Midlands and the girls are beautiful.
‘‘Yes, we’re looking for the next Gisele Bundchen, but we also want to attract girls of all shapes and sizes who are beautiful and have a great personality.
“We’re looking for curvy girls who are in proportion, as well as those who are the classic model shape.”
The down-to-earth glamour girls have graced the covers of most lads’ mags as well as being Page 3 regulars. They have also appeared in high-profile beauty pageants.
They have a wealth of experience within the industry that they can offer any potential models.
“We’ve done a lot with our careers and feel that we can dish out some great advice,” Danni added.
And that includes how to deal with the rich and famous.
Blonde bombshell Danni has had a number of celebrity admirers, including R&B star Craig David and former Arsenal heart-throb Freddie Ljungberg. But she is now happily dating a Midlander who is not in the public eye.
“Craig managed to get my number from my agent and just kept on calling me and asking me out for a date,” she recalled. “I had to knock him back because I’m seeing someone and have been for a few years. Freddie has also shown some interest in me as well.
‘‘It’s all part of the job though. You learn how to deal with different kinds of people and Amii and I will be able to pass on our experiences to the models we recruit.”
Both women have a string of celebrity friends, including Midland footballers, but their main priority is finding models for the new agency. They are looking to increase the number to 30.
“We’ll be scouting for girls in Birmingham, Coventry and other town centres around the West Midlands,” Danni said.
“We want to find the best girls that the region has to offer. Once the agency is up and running, we are considering launching a competition with a contract as the prize.”
The girls already have a number of companies on board, including sexy lingerie chain Agent Provocateur, and are hoping to attract more businesses.
“The response that we’ve had has been brilliant,” Amii added.
“We’ve already got a lot of contacts within the industry, so we’re hopeful that this venture will be a success.”
Both models travel around the country and the world with their jobs, but are happy to keep their HQ in the Midlands.
Their business will be run initially from their homes, but they plan to set up offices in a city centre location soon.
“It’s all very exciting,” Amii added. “Danni and I get on really well and we’re a great team. She’ll be the one who will be looking out for girls while I’ll be dealing with more of the paperwork.”
Male fans will also be glad to know that the girls have not left their glamour modelling days behind them.
“We’re still working and posing for pictures,’’ added Amii.
‘‘It’s a fun job which has lots of perks and you get to make some fantastic friends.
‘‘And we want to make sure our models enjoy it as much as we do.”
