Business leaders from Birmingham and the Black Country kicked off the Six Nations rugby campaign with an evening of fun and fundraising led by former England international David Duckham.

A dinner staged at Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens – and hosted by the former England flying winger – raised almost £7,000 for Wooden Spoon, rugby’s children’s charity supporting disabled and disadvantaged children and young people.

Wooden Spoon’s West Midlands chairman Phil Pemble said: “We would like to recognise the fantastic support we received from the region’s business community. Around 180 people attended and dug deep to support the cause to the tune of £7,000.”
