SMC - the architectural and design group with an office in Warwick - has unveiled plans for a shares listing on the Alternative Investment Market.

The group, which operates all over the country and in Europe, said its move would pave the way for future expansion.

Chief executive Stewart McColl said: "Larger projects are normally led by larger companies and we are building a group with the scale and capability to compete for major projects with higher margins."

Chairman Rodney Walker added: " I accepted the role of chairman as I could see that SMC is a most dynamic business with a successful history of both organic and acquisitive growth and a future strategy that I could buy into with confidence, both as chairman and as a shareholder."

SMC, which employs a 140-strong workforce, last year saw turnover rise 43 per cent, from £ 5 . 7 million to £8.1. million, on profits of £1 million.

Founded in 1995, clients now include Arena Leisure, British Land, Canary Wharf Group, Knightsbridge Estates, Land Securities, Morgan Stanley and Wm Morrisons Supermarkets.
