A group of intrepid fundraisers from a Midland building society used pedal power to generate a £1,000 donation for a Birmingham children’s hospice.

An eight-strong team from the West Brom took part in the Severn Valley Cycle challenge, an annual event staged by Acorns Children’s Hospice in support of its facilities in Selly Oak, Walsall and Worcester.

Participants tackled either a scenic 20 mile route starting in Bridgnorth or a 10 mile course beginning in Severn Valley Country Park.

Divisional director Stephen Leonard, who completed the 20 mile ride, said: “It was a superbly organised event and we are all pleased to have conquered the many challenging hills that made up the route.

“Acorns is such a worthy cause and our staff always respond with genuine enthusiasm when it comes to fundraising on their behalf.”
