Staff at a Birmingham-based financial mutual have smashed through their £100,000 fundraising target for a children’s cancer charity two months ahead of schedule.

Wesleyan Assurance Society chose CLIC Sargent as its charity of the year in 2011 and staff have held a range of fundraisers from cake sales and quiz nights to a trek up Mount Snowdon and abseiling down the side of the their head office in Colmore Circus.

While fundraising activity will continue throughout the remainder of 2012, the recent Birmingham Half-Marathon pushed the company over the £100,000 barrier.

Wesleyan chief executive Craig Errington said: “To raise £100,000 over the past two years is a fantastic achievement.

“Every year, our staff enthusiastically throw their full support behind our chosen charity, giving up their own time to help raise as much money as they can.

“We’re all very proud.”
