Law firm Mills & Reeve has launched a new information resource called www.divorce.co.uk.

The firm said its website, for individuals going through a divorce, separation or dissolution of civil partnership, provides easy-to-digest information and practical tips to help people take control of the process.

Alongside clear guidance on the legal process and potential pitfalls, additional content is provided by professional psychologists and psychotherapists to help with the surrounding emotional issues that arise in divorce situations. The site, the first of its kind to be launched by a law firm, is free to use and the aim is to make the process of separation and divorce a smoother one for all concerned.

Marc Saunderson, a partner in the family and matrimonial team at the Birmingham office of Mills & Reeve, said: "Other than when buying or selling a house, dealing with a divorce will be first time many people have had to instruct a solicitor.

"By providing easily accessible information the site can empower people to take a more active role in the process. A simple under-standing of the options available and what information is needed at each stage can help individuals get the best out of their solicitor and significantly reduce the cost of divorce."

Mills & Reeve said that with handy checklists to walk people through what information they need to provide upfront, the site helps ensure meetings with solicitors are as productive as possible and that time with them is spent dealing with the crux of the matter as opposed to simple housekeeping tasks.

Alongside providing support to individuals going through a relationship breakdown the site will also provide a useful resource to professional advisers supporting clients through a divorce and journalists researching the subject area.

Mr Saunderson added: "Individuals involved in a relationship breakdown can often feel completely overwhelmed by the sheer amount of advice on offer, whether it be from friends, family or the media.

"By bringing together concise information on everything from the new ideas of collaborative law to practical ways of helping children through the impact of divorce, the site helps to keep individuals in control of their own fate."
