Adrian Watson is joining the Birmingham office of law-firm Cobbetts as a senior commercial property partner.

With a start date in August, he arrives from DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary where he is currently a partner and head of the firm's property team in Birmingham.

He specialises in advising the developers of commercial and mixed-use buildings, and is also experienced in property finance and secured lending, having acted for a number of major banks that provide specialist property finance to developers, corporate occupiers and investors.

Andrew Flounders, national head of Cobbetts' property team, said of Mr Watson: "A much respected development and investment specialist, he has a wealth of commercial property experience and his forthcoming arrival represents a significant step in further developing our practice in Birmingham."

The move reflects the growth strategy at Cobbetts, in particular at its Birmingham office, and its objective to strengthen national practice areas with key high profile appointments.

The arrival of Mr Watson will boost the firm's property capabilities to over 150 lawyers, including 44 partners.

Mr Watson is the fifth partner appointment of 2005 for the Birmingham office of Cobbetts alone, following the appointments of Jan Becher to the commercial team, Helen Davies Williams to the pensions team, and James Bessey and Mark Robinson to the construction team.
