National health and fitness chain Virgin Active is to open a new gym in Birmingham city centre.

The new health club, which will open its doors at Broadway Plaza, will offer residents and city workers a 200-piece gym with cardio equipment and free weights, spinning and exercise studios, and a swimming pool and spa.

The gym will also provide free internet access, a cafe/bar, a creche and free on-site parking for up to three hours in Broadway Plaza's 1,300 space car park.

Virgin Active chose the 42,392 ft 2 unit at Broadway Plaza for its central Birmingham address.

Broadway Plaza is on Ladywood Middleway, just off the Fiveways roundabout and the gym will join existing tenants such as the twelve-screen AMC cinema, Bowlplex bowling, Living Golf virtual golf centre and restaurants including Frankie and Bennys and The Dragon BBQ.

Steve Dick, national sales manager for Virgin Active, said that the arrival of the firm in central Birmingham would provide customers with the very best in leisure and fitness.

"With a wide range of cardio equipment and top class facilities such as a 25-metre swimming pool, going to the gym will no longer be a chore for city centre residents and workers, as members can conveniently pop in on their way to and from work."
