Young children are looking forward to a great day out thanks to an employee from chartered accountants Dains who made a pledge at a Thrive forum to make it happen.

Nigel Chilvers, who works with the business recovery and insolvency team at the Fort Dunlop-based company, has helped to organise a project that will enhance links between the company and families who live around Fort Dunlop.

The get-together for 50 toddlers will take place at Funky Monkeys, near to the company's offices, on Wednesday, September 19. The youngsters with their parents and carers have been invited through the company's links with the Tenants and Residents' Alliance of Castle Vale and Sure Start of Smiths Wood and Chelmsley Wood.

The initiative is just one of many undertaken by Dains that enable employees to stay in touch with the wider community.

Nigel said: "Dains have committed to many CSR projects including the support of a 'business college' with one of the local schools, a mentoring project for post 16 year olds, participation in fundraising events, such as the Great Midlands Fun Run, and the forthcoming Dains sponsored Funky Monkeys carer/toddler play session for those in the vicinity of our new office in the Fort Dunlop development."

He added: "The CSR projects are about a commitment to our communities. Not just about how much a corporate can give financially, but how the time, knowledge and care the business and it's staff can share, in order to benefit the communities in which we live and work."

Nigel's enthusiasm won the backing of the Dains' hierarchy including Chief Exeuctive Spencer Wright.

He said: "Dains has grown considerably over the last five years and with it has grown our commitment to CSR. Consequently, Dains have formalised the contributions that the firm makes through a combination of honorary work, time committed by staff, charitable fund raising and cash donations to local causes as the 'Dains in the Community' Fund.

"The total value of the contributions made by the firm in supporting local communities and projects, charitable causes and events last year was #20,000.

Additionally, with six primary offices throughout the Midlands, Dains covers a wide area and encourages our Partners and staff in supporting many local initiatives."

Other ideas that have already inspired the teams include the company's efforts to operate a 'paperless' office.

Spencer added: "The benefits of using CSR have included the motivation and productivity of staff, good relations and reputation within the communities we live and work, and an increased competitiveness in the marketplace."
