Stourport-based Thomas Vale Group has strengthened its interest in street lighting maintenance and installation through the merger of existing group company Paul Adams with PJ Musgrave.

The new business, which will operate as PJM Adams, has a combined turnover worth more than £6 million, with depots in the West Midlands and Derbyshire.

The company has more than 100 clients, largely within the private sector including Carillion, Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering, Balfour Beatty Rail Projects, DW Projects, Wrekin Construction, Amscott and Optima, with plans to grow its share of business in the public sector.

Pat Musgrave, managing director of PJ Musgrave and now PJM Adams, said the business and cultural fit of the two companies had been strong.

"PJ Musgrave had been traditionally strong in the East Midlands and less so in the West Midlands where Paul Adams had a stronger presence. By joining forces we are in a position to move forward and grow our share of the market," he said.

"Our turnover is almost £7 million and we believe through sensible and well managed organic growth we will become a £10 million a year business."

He added: "Benefits for our clients will be significant. The merger allows us to maintain a personal and committed approach, whilst also extending the services we are able to deliver and the geographical area we cover."

The merged business, which now employs more than 70, offers services across commercial and industrial sectors including electrical and lighting installation and design, electrical engineering support services and contract supervision.

Building on PJ Musgrave's existing strengths in the rail sector, it also provides a range of services to the industry including lit sign and pole installation, high mast lighting and electrical engineering support services.

PJM Adams' core area of business is highways, providing services including cabling for street lighting and communications, feeder pillar design and manufacture, installation, trenching and ducting in addition to electrical maintenance and associated electrical works.

Mike Wallis, group chairman, Thomas Vale, said: "Paul Adams and PJ Mus-grave have long established reputations within their markets. We are delighted with the merger and look forward to an on-going focus on continuous improvement and to delivering added value to our clients."
