A store in Telford has been fined £6,000 after food was found contaminated with rat droppings and urine.

It comes after a member of the public reported the Poundland shop to the council after they spotted a mouse.

Environmental health inspectors visited the store in November last year and discovered an infestation in the store.

The Willenhall-based company admitted charges including failing to protect against contamination of food, having premises that were not clean and not having a procedure in place to control pests.

A further charge of selling unfit food was withdrawn.

The company was ordered to pay the fine with £10,425 costs at Telford Magistrates’ Court.
