Sutton Coldfield businessman Dr Nigel Roberts has invested £1.5 million in a major refurbishment of a luxury apartment hotel in Paynes Bay, Barbados.

The St James offers a range of accommodation from studio apartments to a four-bedroom penthouse.

The site has now reopened after a two-year building project to provide two new penthouse apartments.

Existing apartments have been rebuilt and the hotel grounds developed.

The St James, considered to be the top apartment hotel on the island, is located at the centre of the Gold Coast.

Prices are from $250 (£133) for a one-bedroom apartment for two people per night up to $750 (£399) for a two-bedroom apartment for four people in the high season.

Dr Roberts who lives in Little Aston is a former principal medical officer of the QE2.
