Businesses across the Midlands are sharing the secrets of their success with automotive suppliers in the region.
Around 30 suppliers are taking part in the first phase of a new Automotive Excellence programme run by Midlands Excellence and the Automotive Academy.
BMW Plant Hams Hall, 3663 First for Foodservice, Eaton Electric and tubing producer Mueller Europe are among the successful businesses that will host the performance improvement sessions and present to the groups.
The programme is made up of master-classes covering areas ranging from strategic planning and people development to waste management and customer relations.
Ian Nield, chief executive of Midlands Excellence, said: "The breadth of the programme and the opportunity to pick up tips from leading businesses has certainly proved a winning combination for many companies that are keen to discover new ways of improving their performance."
Two Automotive Excellence groups have just begun at Mueller Europe in Bilston and BMW's engine plant at Hams Hall, with further groups set to launch over the summer.
Each group will run for six months, with subjects covered including managing waste, improving the management of people and partnership working.
The industry-led Automotive Academy promotes world-class training for people at all levels in UK vehicle manufacturing and its supply chain.
Chief executive Alan Begg said: "The potential of this particular programme is huge as it's designed for leaders who can make a real difference within their companies."
Meanwhile Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin are supporting a new concept, which will bring together vehicle manufacturers, the supply chain and academia, in the hope of reviving the automotive sector in the Midlands.
Autolink 2006 which has been run very successfully in Wales for the past two years, will be held at the Technology and Innovation Centre, Millennium Point next Thursday.
The one day event is being held to encourage innovative and collaborative working between the supply chain, academia and OEMs.
It will offer companies the opportunity for preselected private one to one meetings to explore opening new markets, new product development or cost reduction.
An exhibition will include an array of products and services by automotive companies and will be the place for networking and generating business inquiries...SUPL:
