The world's biggest manufacturer of beverage cans has awarded a new £4 million contract to TM Logistics in the latest part of a partnership that goes back decades.

Midlands-based TM Logistics, a subsidiary of Taylors of Martley, in Worcestershire, has built a sophisticated nationwide operation for Rexam's UK beverage can business and their thirty-year relationship has been sealed with a contract extension to December 2008.

As Rexam Beverage Can's single logistics partner in the UK, TML manages all Rexam's can and packaging storage movements nationwide with a dedicated fleet.

The new contract sees TM Logistics managing a round-the-clock operation at centres in Wakefield and Tongwell, Milton Keynes with warehousing, distribution, planning and transport.

It means TM Logistics will service Rexam's worldwide customer base with household names such as Carlsberg Tetley and Coca Cola. Indeed, during the World Cup month of June, Rexam expects UK sales to exceed 200 million cans.

The TML operation is supported by various centres strategically placed nationwide to service the needs of both Rexam and its customers.

Chief executive Stephen Taylor said the new contract was a fantastic vote of confidence in TM Logistics.

"We expect to deliver around 500 full load movements per week under this new contract," he said.

"Over the years, we have proven adept at providing expert logistics solutions through a combination of teamwork with the client, 24-hour reliability and a policy of continual improvement."

Rexam Beverage Can's European logistics director Hugh Gallacher emphasised the importance of today's consolidating marketplace and the need for closer working relationships with customers and suppliers alike.

He said: "We are confident in TM Logistics' ability to deliver the service our customers demand. They have proved they can adapt to our changing requirements and TML is an important partner in our business demands."

Mr Taylor added: "We have built an excellent reputation in the packaging sector having specialised in working with manufacturers of food, beverages, aerosol cans and PET containers.

"The Rexam contract forms part of a long-term growth plan for us and we look forward to expanding our operations in this market."

The firm also ranks Kingspan Insulation, Coca Cola, Plastic Omnium and DCS Europe among its portfolio.
