Midlands pub operator, Punch Taverns, which has more than 150 pubs in and around Birmingham, has earmarked a further £2 million to spend on upgrades before the end of August. It has already invested some £1.5 million.

Regional operations director, Giles Kendal said: "We are committed to ensuring our estate is second to none when it comes to the quality of amenities for customers.

"Working closely with our retailers in the area, the West Midlands will continue to be an important focal point for investment in our pubs."

One of the larger refurbishment schemes in the region is a major £270,000 project at the New Hussey Arms, Chester Road, Brownhills.

Due to reopen on March 14, the new look pub will not only boast a range of improved facilities such as an outdoor dining area but will also be home to the new Spaghetti Factory restaurant - brainchild of local entrepreneur, Janet Denning.

Punch Taverns has around 7,800 leased and tenanted outlets.
