Retailer ScS yesterday unveiled plans to invest more than £1 million in Wolverhampton as work starts on what will be one of the region's most impressive furniture retail outlets.

Due to open its doors to the public in August at St John's Retail Park, the store is part of the national sofa retailer's expansion plans, and will see significant job creation across sales, administrative and managerial positions.

As part of a £10 million investment in new stores this year, the site will be fully transformed as ScS embark on a full-scale refit to create a spacious 12,000 sq ft of fully airconditioned retail space.

Set to display more than 200 products, the new outlet will showcase the retailer's extensive range of fabric and real leather sofas and chairs.

The new sofa superstore will take the rapidly expanding retailer's number of showrooms to 83 nationwide and will further strengthen the Company's presence in the Midlands, building on the existing success of ScS stores in Cannock, Castle Vale, Kidderminster, Stetchford, Solihull and Telford.

David Knight, chief executive of ScS, visited the site to see the new development progressing.

He said: "Strengthening our presence in the Midlands is key to our continued national success and we are delighted to see our latest showroom start to take shape at St John's Retail Park.

"Wolverhampton benefits from a very strong retail economy and St John's Retail Park is a considerable retail and business location in its own right.

"We are delighted to be opening another super-store in the area."
