Small business owners were urged to switch on to the power of IT while attending a seminar at Weston Park in Shropshire.

Business Link in the West Midlands teamed up with consultancy IT Futures to host the event, which is part of a series of workshops planned to promote the organisation's new specialist IT advisory service.

Experts were on hand to provide sessions outlining the benefits of IT to small businesses and answer questions on a broad range of issues.

Topics covered at the event included the ICT revolution, e-commerce, mobile/wireless technologies and online security.

In addition, special guest Kevin Parr, a motivational speaker and business coach, offered some thought-provoking ideas on how IT can improve efficiency, save money and increase business profits.

Andi Johnson, events manager at Business Link, said: "The feedback was fantastic from the businesses who attended the event. They had a unique opportunity to gain a great deal of knowledge and to quiz speakers on some of the lessons they had learned and tips on making the most of IT.

"This is just the first of a number of events we've got planned and it is important to promote the benefits of IT, especially in Shropshire as this will be one of the key areas for us."

The seminar followed the launch of an innovative new website to promote the launch of Business Link's IT Advisory Service - www.businesslinkwm.co.uk/tapintoit - that is helping companies exploit IT for sales and marketing, productivity and winning new business.
