International environmental consultancy SLR, which has an office in Redditch, has acquired Waste Management Engineering - an environmental engineering consultancy specialising in waste treatment and pollution control technologies.
The move is part of SLR's strategy to extend the range of waste management services it offers to industry, local and national government and regulatory authorities.
SLR investigates, assesses, designs and implements for clients appropriate methods to minimise, manage, treat and recycle waste using processes which comply with strict EU legislation.
Managing director Neil Penhall said: "WMEL has worked successfully with us on numerous projects over the last seven years. The merger makes sound economic sense and offers excellent growth opportunities, particularly in the waste processing and renewable energy markets."
Mike Hession, managing director at WMEL, said: "The time is right for us to join forces with a larger company where there is a clear synergy in our services.
"Together with SLR we can provide clients with an allround service from conceptual design and feasibility to design and project management of fully integrated waste handling and treatment facilities." SLR is a multidisciplinary consultancy with over 200 professionals providing services from a network of 12 offices located across the UK and US.
The company provides environmental and specialist waste management services to local authorities and businesses.
