The former chairman of Aston Villa FC was among business people at a ball which raised more than £12,000 for a children’s charity.

The NSPCC Birmingham Business Group hosted the black tie event at Villa Park in aid of ChildLine.

Special guest Sir Doug Ellis was thanked by the NSPCC for his dedicated fundraising efforts over the years which have totalled £1,366,000.

Jenny Sedgwick, NSPCC fundraising executive for the West Midlands, said: ‘‘I’d like to thank everyone that attended the evening for their exceptional contribution and generosity.

“In particular I would like to mention Sir Doug Ellis whose loyalty to our organisation over the years has funded an essential service to local children that are in need of protection and support.’’
