Business people from Shropshire have put on a ‘home entrepreneur’ display as part of a bid to be named Britain’s most enterprising place.

The county was crowned the West Midlands’ most enterprising last month and is competing against others for the national crown. Enterprising Britain judge Sue Brownson OBE met with start-ups and young businesses in Ironbridge and heard how the growth in home-working has helped businesses to shrug off the downturn.

She visited young entrepreneurs at Telford College of Arts and Technology and talked to technology and marketing firms. She said: “I am hugely impressed at what is being achieved in Shropshire and how the two Enterprise HQ facilities are helping to galvanise a whole new generation of entrepreneur. The facilities are extremely impressive but the real success story is the people and they are genuinely delighted to have the opportunity to take advantage of this specialist support in helping them turn dreams and ideas into reality.”

The national Enterprising Britain winner will be announced in October. The winner will represent the UK in the European Enterprise Awards.
