A growing West Bromwich-based logistics group has taken over a local rival – completing its eighth acquisition in the last two years.

The Sheldon Clayton Logistics Group has acquired established Willenhall firm Costin Logistics in a deal which has seen SCLG boost its annual turnover to £18 million.

The deal was completed with the support of Coventry-based chartered accountancy firm Spencer Gardner Dickins and comes after Sheldon Clayton took over FTG Logistics – another Midlands company which it merged with its European division over the summer.

Sheldon Clayton Logistics, which now has 170 employees, has been trading for more than 30 years and has its headquarters on Black Country New Road with its 12.5 acre site boasting over 300,000 sq ft of new build office and warehouse facilities.

The growth of the site and business from £5 million to £18 million in the last two years has been driven by chairman and founder Dave Sheldon.

The group’s managing director Stephen Pollock said: “Going into the recession our cash planning and investment strategy took the most important dimension in what we as a group did.

“Although, along with my chairman’s support, we were hugely optimistic in our five-year plan.”

As well as the £12 million of local trade acquisitions in the last two years, the group has also acquired over £4 million of land to support its future growth plans.

David Thomas, partner at Spencer Gardner Dickins, said Sheldon Clayton Logistics has enjoyed tremendous growth in a short space of time.

“The group must and should remain focused on acquiring companies to complement the logistics infrastructure in the West Midlands when the time is right,” he said.
