Swedish speciality steel and tool maker Sandvik has reached agreement to buy two UK firms.
The group has secured Derbyshire-based Extec Screens and Crushers and Fintec Crushing and Screening, of Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland, for an undisclosed sum.
Sandvik, whose UK base is in Halesowen, said yesterday the acquisitions were expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2007.
Extec and Fintec are active in the design and manufacture of mobile crushing and screening equipment.
The company, based in Swadlincote, has 450 employees and this week won a Queen's Award for Enterprise in recognition of its export success.
Fintec, based in Ballygawley, has 325 employees and recorded 2006 sales of around £41 million.
Sandvik's mining and construction president Lars Josefsson said: "By acquiring Extec and Fintec we will extend our customer offering by adding mid-size, and light crushing and screening equipment and thereby become a strong supplier in this fast growing industry."
The acquisitions increase Sandvik's UK workforce to around 2,200.
