Businesswomen who need to travel for work may have a greater opportunity for network thanks to the launch of a new website.
Ladiesaway.com is the brainchild of 47-year-old Ray Lechky, who was inspired by a conversation he had with his brother-in-law about his wife's work.
Mr Lechky said: " My brother-in-law was saying how his wife would not leave her hotel room when she returned from work, because she didn't want to go out on her own. I suddenly realised there were probably other women in the area in exactly the same position."
Ladiesaway. com, Mr Lechky's first business venture, allows businesswomen to register where they are staying and to check if any other women are nearby. If there is anyone they feel it would be a useful contact, they can arrange to meet.
Mr Lechky said: "We've built in a lot of security into the website and members are asked to supply a lot of information to make sure that it is very safe.
" The site also allows members to post reviews of hotels and restaurants, to give other businesswoman an idea of the best places to go."
Mr Lechky, a television picture editor, said he hoped the Ladiesaway concept could be extended in future. He now plans to concentrate on marketing the Ladiesaway.com site to large employers who have female employees who work away from home.
