Russian energy giant Gazprom has opened a new arm of its UK retail operation in Solihull.

Nine new jobs will be created at the new branch of Gazprom Marketing and Trading at Blythe Valley Park which will focus on serving the power needs of business customers.

Gazprom has been trading in the UK for ten years and has had a retail presence for the last two years through its Manchester-based retail subsidiary which deals in supplying gas to business customers.

Gazprom’s UK retail operations have seen its customer base grow significantly over the last two years, increasing from 1,000 to 14,000 customers. It now supplies two billion cubic meters of gas to UK businesses every year.

Gazprom Marketing and Trading is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom, Europe’s largest gas supplier and the successor company to the Russian state-run gas company. The Russian state still owns just over 50 per cent of Gazprom’s shares.

The UK-based Gazprom Marketing and Trading is developing trading capabilities across a range of energy commodities and geographic markets.

James Constant, head of power for Gazprom Marketing and Trading Retail UK, said: “We are driven through good customer service and we hope to build on our reputation as one of the country’s fastest growing energy suppliers in the business market following our move to Blythe Valley Park.

“It is a fabulous place, in a fantastic location with good accessibility and the people here are a different class. Blythe Valley Park’s ambitions match our own to support future growth.”

Paul Rubincam, of Liberty Property Trust UK, Blythe Valley Park’s owners, said: “We are delighted to welcome yet another hugely successful international company to Blythe Valley Park, and we look forward to assisting with Gazprom’s growth plans.”
