The Royal Mail is opening eight centres dedicated to sorting parcels for the busy Christmas period, including one in Staffordshire.

The centre will open from Monday in Tamworth to cope with an increase expected because of the growth of online shopping.

There will also be centres in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Swansea, Bolton, Peterborough, Swindon and Greenford in London.

Mark Higson, Royal Mail’s managing director of operations and modernisation, said: “Christmas is the busiest time of year for Royal Mail and our customers. Royal Mail has invested in eight dedicated parcel sort centres to increase our scale and improve our flexibility during this important time of year for our customers.”
