The new chairman at Coventry's Ricoh Arena says he has joined a complex which is delivering both value to the local economy and pride to the people of the West Midlands.
David Allvey has succeeded Andrew Young at the multi-purpose venue and wants to build on the success of its first year.
The 61-year-old was in the crowd to watch the recent Red Hot Chili Peppers' concert which attracted 40,000 fans from across the country.
"It was only my second visit to the Ricoh. It was a great evening and highlighted exactly what the arena has to offer," he said.
"But what is also pleasing is the fact that the venue is so flexible. We spoke to the organisers of the concert and they were praising the venue for the way it had been planned as truly multi-purpose. They were very impressed.
"On my first visit a few days before BT and Ford were using the Ricoh Arena for conferences - you can't really have two more varied uses for an arena."
Mr Allvey's CV makes impressive reading. He was a civil engineer before qualify-ing as a chartered accountant.
He is a former group finance director of Barclays Bank and BAT Industries as well as chief operating officer of Zurich Financial Services and was a non-executive director of McKechnie.
Mr Allvey was also a member of the UK Accounting Standards Board for ten years and is currently a nonexecutive director of Costain Group, Intertek, My Travel Group, Resolution Group and William Hill.
He said: "The Ricoh Arena team has done a great job.
"My predecessor Andrew Young has played a major part in making the plans a reality and in recent months has been more like a chief executive in many ways than a chairman.
"He deserves much credit - along with the rest of the team - for delivering such a wonderful complex.
"The first phase involved the finalisation of construction and the commencement of operations and both have been successfully completed. The Ricoh Arena is now firmly established and shows exactly what can be achieved when a city council and a charity work together.
"I am really taking over at the start of the next phase which will see us build on what has been started.
"The Arena Coventry Limited board wants to continue to attract top events of all kinds to build a truly international reputation, while serving the needs of our tenants, customers, partners and sponsors."
