Coventry is to get a new hotel as part of a multi-million pound city centre redevelopment project.
Premier Inn has announced that it is set to open at the city’s Belgrade Plaza – a £150 million mixed-use scheme – in spring 2009. The company, which operates 532 hotels across the UK, has signed up for 119-bed hotel at Belgrade Plaza, which will create a new leisure, culture and entertainment quarter in the city centre.
John Bates, of Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, owner of Premier Inn, was the first to try one of the new high level rooms out for size.
He said: “We were one of the first companies to sign up to Belgrade Plaza and are looking forward to being part of what is clearly a key development for the city.
“We have several hotels around the Coventry area but this is the first in the city centre and we are very confident that our offer of good quality rooms, comfortable surroundings and friendly service – all at a highly competitive price – will not only prove popular but also attract people to stop in the city.”
Developer Oakmoor Deeley has attracted a host of leisure names including Metro Bar and Grill, Bella Italia, Pizza Express, Radisson Edwardian and Gala Casinos to Belgrade Plaza.
Kieran Leahy, of Oakmoor Deeley said: “Belgrade Plaza will be a landmark development and we wanted to give John a taste of the views his customers will experience when the development opens next year.”
Shortland Horne and Wright Silverwood are agents on the scheme.
