HG Hair and Beauty in Stratford Road, formerly called Hair by Rachel, won the package after entering an online competition. ...TEXT The prize included a brand makeover by top international advertising agency Publicis Dialog, whose clients include Renault, Zurich, Pernod Ricard and HP.
The agency created several striking new looks for the store's new facia and interior, as well as proposals for the new name, before owner Julie Davis herself decided on the final 'swirling lock of hair' design.
Powergen, part of E.ON UK, also carried out an energy survey on the salon, and provided new energy efficient heating and lighting designed to reduce usage and help cut bills. Modern, thinner fluorescent tubes were fitted to give brighter lighting that also uses less energy. Electric water heaters were also installed above each wash basin to provide a reliable, more cost-effective source of hot water.
Ms Davis, owner of HG Hair and Beauty, said: "A modern, inviting image is a must for a business like ours, and we're all set to welcome new customers alongside our loyal regulars."
Samantha Baylis, director of E.ON's B2B business, said: "We offered this prize to show that almost any business can be energy friendly at the same time as attracting customers.
"In fact, most of the changes made at Julie's salon to save energy were low-cost, and should have the double benefit of using less energy while making the salon a lighter, more comfortable place to be."
Before the makeover, Julie was using portable halogen and oil heaters to warm the salon each morning, sometimes even using the hair dryers.
The ceiling was also lowered to improve lighting and to reduce heat loss. ..SUPL:
