Willenhall-based Poundland is creating 2,000 temporary jobs to help with the anticipated Christmas rush.

The shop, which sells everything for £1, joins other big retailers like Sainsbury’s and John Lewis in taking on extra staff to cope with extra demand during the festive period.

Retail director Tim McDonnell said: “We need on average five or six extra staff to help us cope with this extremely busy period.

“The response so far has been fantastic – high quality applicants with enthusiasm and a determination to get the job done.”

Poundland said there was a good reason for applicants to work hard when they’re taken on for the season, as 300 of the Christmas temporary colleagues last year went on to become permanent employees.
