Workers at Pirelli Tyres in Staffordshire voted for strike action after rejecting the firm's 2.2 per cent pay offer.

The 200 staff at the company's components and fitting site in Burton on Trent will hold a one day walk out later this month. The strike, due to take place on August 25, will also be staged at the firm's site in Carlisle, while a continuous overtime ban will be held from that date.

Members of the Transport & General Workers' Union are angry that they have only been offered a 2.2 per cent pay rise in one of the most profitable parts of the Pirelli Group.

The strike will be termed 'discontinuous strike action', so that further strike dates can be added if members decide.
