Paul Thandi has been appointed chairman of the Birmingham and Solihull Employment and Skills Board, the advisory body to the Learning and Skills Council.

The chief executive of The NEC Group accepted the role following the retirement of David Hersey, former regional director of the Royal Bank of Scotland. Mr Thandi said: “I am exceptionally pleased and extremely honoured to be able to take up this role.

“I believe strongly in the importance of skills development and the overwhelmingly positive contribution that it can make to our region, particularly in the face of our current economy.”
