A former top executive with an international swimwear brand has joined the talent pool in Birmingham

City man Paul Phedon, who was previously vice-president for marketing with Speedo, has joined S&X Media as a partner.

The partnership with S&X Media founder, Roulla Xenides, represents an expansion into a broader marketing sphere for the Jewellery Quarter based company.

With Speedo for nine years, Paul was responsible for global sports marketing and sponsorship across 170 markets.

Career highlights included managing the Sydney and Athens Olympics for Speedo, winning 'PR Week Best International Campaign' in 2000 for the Fastskin campaign, followed by the 2005 Sports Industry Awards 'best use of PR' for the Athens Games, which is said to have generated over £200 million of PR globally for the brand.

He said: "Although I've lived here for the past 18 years, my working life has always been spent travelling in the UK and abroad, from Bolton to Beijing , and I have often extolled the city's virtues to anyone who'll listen.

"Now that I'm based here for work, it's even better, because I have realised just how enjoyable it is. There's a real buzz and energy, yet at the same time a sense of community in the business world."

Since its launch six years ago, S&X Media has worked with clients including Louis Vuitton, Birmingham City Centre Partnership, Cirque du Soleil, Urban Outfitters, Bank Restaurant, BBC Good Food Show, Selfridges Birmingham and Jasper Carrott.

It is working with Marketing Birmingham on the Birmingham Bites food campaign.

Mr Phedon said: "Lifestyle campaigns which highlight the city's assets, from fashion and shopping to food, arts and sport are important to building Birmingham's profile."
