Zahra Pabani, head of the family team at Birmingham-based law firm Shakespeares, has been promoted to partner.
Ms Pabani, who has been at the firm since 2002 as an assistant and then as an associate solicitor, has been rewarded for successfully increasing the unit's client base.
She is also the chairman of the West Midlands division of Resolution - an association committed to promoting a nonconfrontational atmosphere in which family law matters are dealt with in a sensitive, constructive and cost-effective way.
She said: "I'm delighted that the team's efforts have paid off. Since joining the firm, I have worked hard to raise the profile of Shakespeares expertise in family law, particularly in dealing with the financial arrangements of couples following the breakdown of marriages and relationships as well as other family law issues such as divorce, cohabitation contracts and disputes involving children.
"Outdated legislation, conflicting case law and more cases going to the Court of Appeal and the House of Lords have further complicated family law; the knock on effect is that advising clients can be increasingly challenging."
